Since 2009, CEC has offered teachers the opportunity to teach in China during their summer break. Teachers have an amazing experience and can even receive points for their professional growth plans.


The number and location of opportunities for teachers to teach during the summer in China varies from year to year.   During the summer of 2017, most of those teachers selected to participate will be assigned to a Elementary school or middle school in Hangzhou, the capital of Indiana’s sister state in China, Zhejiang Province.


We need 30-40 teachers this year
Sessions will be two weeks and will occur between July 1—21
Requirements:

  • Currently teaching in U.S. public or private school or currently working as full-time college/university faculty
  • Letter of recommendation from supervisor or higher
  • Selected new graduates who are fully qualified to begin teaching will be considered

Logistics:

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel
  • Lunch will be served at the school
  • Teachers are on their own for most evening meals
  • Rooms are double occupancy with one bathroom
  • Single rooms are available at extra cost
  • Transportation will be provided for local tours on weekends
  • 24-7 bilingual assistance provided by CEC throughout the program

 

Cost for all locations:


Program fee: $600, Visa procurement fee: $240 (Experienced teachers may already have a valid visa.  Check your passport for the Chinese visa expiration date.)
NOTE:  Selected teachers who are one-year veterans of our China summer program will be charged $300 for the program fee.  Selected teachers who have two or more years of experience will not be charged a program fee. Veterans who have been selected will be notified.

Payment details:


Program fee: $600 (*Price includes roundtrip airfare from O’Hare, lodging, most meals during the program, local weekend tours, and pre-departure training.)
Program and visa fees are non-refundable after April 1st.  After April 1st teachers who cancel for any reason will be charged the full amount of the ticket cancellation fee, in addition to the program and visa fees, which could total as much as $1,200.
Pre-departure training – Saturday, April 23rd, 2017 at CEC offices.  Topics include

  • Instruction in Chinese education and culture
  • How teaching in China is different
  • Living and working in China
  • A short introduction to the long history of China
  • Changes in China
  • Preparing for an International adventure
  • What to pack (and what NOT to pack)

The following are due by no later than Friday, March 31st:

  • Passport
  • Two 2” x 2” passport photos
  • Waiver form
  • Completed emergency contact information form
  • Medical form
  • Proof of medical insurance including emergency transportation coverage

Get your passport ASAP. It takes 4-6 weeks or longer to receive the passport.  Expedited service is available but is expensive and not recommended.  If you already have a passport, check the expiration date.  Those expiring before January 31, 2018 must be renewed or you will not be able to get a visa.
